WomenCan‘s mission is to engage the community to fund pioneering discoveries that will enable women with a gynaecological cancer to live better and live longer. We support the peak national research group, ANZGOG, by funding their programs to improve life for women with a gynaecological cancer.
Every year it is estimated that 6,600 Australian women will be diagnosed with one of the five main types of gynaecological cancer: ovary (fallopian), uterus (endometrial), cervix, vagina, or vulva.
Ovarian cancer is the deadliest of all women’s cancers with overall survival of 48% to five years. Endometrial cancer has the highest number of women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer. Despite being the only gynaecological cancer with an early detection and vaccine, women are still dying from cervical cancer. Cancer is not one size fits all and neither are treatments. Awareness and investment in ANZGOG’s research are imperative to improve outcomes for women.
Sally Anne Upton has been a wonderful WomenCan Ambassador since August 2019 and an advocate for ovarian cancer research for the last 25 years, following the death of her close friend, comedian Lynda Gibson.Â
Sal, has been a warrior in promoting awareness and the need to invest in ANZGOG’s research to ensure women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer, can have better outcomes. Sal knows this through firsthand experience and is committed to ensuring that women receive knowledge about these cancers and that through research, they have the opportunity to be hopeful they can survive. Thank you for all your efforts, Sal.
